Goondiwindi and Stanthorpe State Schools are P -7 schools located in the Warwick District, Queensland, Australia. The Warwick District is located within the Darling Downs /South West Region. The District extends west to Talwood, east to Killarney, south to the border at Wallangarra and to Allora in the north. Across the district some 42 school communities work together through three geographically based clusters, the Granite Belt Cluster (15 schools) based on Stanthorpe, the Macintyre Cluster (12 schools) based on Goondiwindi and the Warwick/Cunningham Cluster (15 schools) based on Warwick. In July 2005 Moonie and Westmar schools were welcomed to the Macintyre Cluster and the District. Both Goondiwindi State School and Stanthorpe State School have significant membership in and commitment to the district’s CAP team – Curriculum, Assessment, Pedagogy. The CAP team’s motto is – Learning to Learn from one another in the Warwick District. In an effort to model this motto, and as a response to Education Queensland’s commitment to embedding multiliteracy theory into pedagogy, assessment and planning, our schools saw an opportunity in the Learning by Design project. Our schools have combined resources to run an awareness raising day in 2004 followed by two days professional development with Dr Bill Cope who visited Goondiwindi in June 2005 and worked with a group of 14 teachers and educators from around the district. Teachers attending these days are currently designing and trialling Learning Elements and they will meet again later this year to share their findings. It is hoped that some of these teachers will share their learnings at a Warwick District Conference in 2006.
